Man Lynched By Irate Youths Over Child Theft
A Fulani man, Musa Umar, has been
lynched by irate youths in Zonkwa town in Zango Kataf local government
area of Kaduna State for alleged child theft.
It
was learnt the man was killed during the weekly Zonkwa market last
Saturday when he was coming from Bauchi State along with a 13 year old
boy, Yalop.
It also was gathered that the youths
in the market pounced on him after he was accused of stealing the boy
who was with him on a motorcycle. He was killed around 4pm near the
market.
“The Fulani man was passing through the
Zonkwa road and one of the youths around the market raised alarm that
the man stole the boy he was travelling with. The boy is not a Fulani
but they were together with him. Before the man could explain himself,
the youths pounced on him. He died at St. Louis Hospital in Zonkwa,” a
witness said.
Elder brother of the slain man Mu’azu Umar said his brother did not steal the boy as alleged.
“We
have long standing relationship with the family of the boy in Bauchi.
The grandfather of the boy gave my brother the boy to assist him in
cattle rearing. We want justice because my brother was killed for the
offence he didn’t commit,” he said.
Grandfather
of the boy Dauda Taru said he was the one who handed his grandson to the
slain Fulani man. “He didn’t steal the boy. I was the one that handed
the boy to him because we have been doing that for long. I was surprised
to hear that he was killed for allegedly stealing my grandson,” he
said.
Chairman of the Miyetti Allah in Zango
Kataf Alhaji Shuaibu Usman said he decided to produce parents of the boy
to prove the innocence of the slain man.
Spokesperson of the Kaduna State police command DSP Aminu Lawan said he was not aware of the incident.
