ANAMBRA GOVERNORSHIP POLLS: TMG Lauds INEC For Accepting Responsibility

The Transition Monitoring Group (TMG) has lauded the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for accepting responsibility for failure of its officials, who it they claimed worked for outside interest.
The Chairman of the group, Mr Zikirilluhi Ibrahim, said this at a news conference on the post Anambra Gubernatorial Election in Abuja on Monday.
The group urged INEC, security agencies and the Federal Government to expose the outside interest that the INEC official worked for. “The INEC official that was allegedly caught though arrested, but that was not enough.
“INEC must move beyond that; the identity of the alleged collaborators and those they are working with should be made known. “the Anambra people and in fact, entire the Nigerian people deserve to know them,” he said.
He said that the claim by three of the political parties; APC, LP and the PDP that the election was not free
and fair was confirmed by the INEC chairman.
The group said that for the 2015 election to be credible, INEC must work in partnership with political parties, civil organisations and government bodies to find practical solutions to electoral problems. He said that the group was ready to work with INEC and other stakeholders to ensure the success of the 2015 elections.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the INEC Chairman, Prof. Atthairu Jega admitted sabotage in the Anambra state election, saying there were irregularities.
Jega spoke on a live programme on AIT on Sunday on the Anambra elections. He said that the INEC staff that perpetrated the act had been arrested and handed over to the police.
“I am sorry Nigerians; there was sabotage in the Anambra state election that was why there were so many irregularities.
“We have arrested the INEC staffs used for that sabotage and they are now in police net,” Jega said.
