Last Monday, the ailing Governor of Taraba State Danbaba Suntai failed to recognize the Governor's mansion, mistaking it for an airport. Yesterday, Mr. Suntai failed to name the location of Aso Rock.
It will be recalled that the Governor was involved in a plane crash near Yola, capital of Adamawa State in October 2012. He has since been treated for the sustained brain injuries in Germany and the United States. However, doctors' prognoses have been unfavorable: Mr. Suntai is unlikely to function normally again given the nature of his injuries.
Last week, Mr. Suntai was taken to his office in Taraba State capital, Jalingo, accompanied by some of his physical therapists. After several minutes, Mr. Suntai could not tell what he was doing. He was then rushed back to the Governor's mansion, but claimed he was at the "Airport."
In a second attempt, the group behind the efforts, which is reportedly run by by former Nigeria Minister of Defence, Theophilus Danjuma, shipped Mr. Suntai to Abuja. There, he was scheduled to meet with
President Goodluck Jonathan. However, according to sources, President Jonathan sent some security agents to meet with the Governor first. When they asked if he knew where Aso Rock is, Mr. Suntai replied that it was in Jalingo, not in Abuja.
The ailing Governor was flown back to Jalingo last night.
