Why I Dumped PDP For APC – Atiku Reveals

Former vice president Atiku Abubakar formally announced his defection to the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) yesterday.
According to the former vice president, his decision to leave the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was because the party had become irredeemable and had abandoned the people which voted it into power.
Atiku's defection, the second in 8-years is coming after his nationwide consultations with his political associates over his political ambition of which majority of them wanted him to join forces with the APC.
Recall that the leadership of APC had paid Atiku a visit in December as part of moves to woo him into the party.
In a press statement titled, "After consultation, it is time to move to APC. Let the bridge-building continue," signed by Atiku himself, he expressed his disappointment with the PDP, who according to him have derailed from the ideals of its founding fathers, adding that he had been unjustifiably excluded and
denied his rights and privileges as a former vice president.
He is expected to submit a letter today, announcing his defection from the PDP.
But as Atiku prepares to officially declare today in Yola, the capital of his home state, Adamawa, there are strong indications that political pressure groups in the north have made a tactical retreat in the race for the presidential ticket of the PDP.
