Traditional Ruler, 11 Others Killed In Fresh Boko Haram Attack

 

Members of the Boko Haram sect have killed a traditional ruler and 11 others in a renewed attack on Garubula village of Biu Local Government Area of Borno state.
According to residents of the village, the attack on Garubula was carried out around 11pm on Wednesday night.

A resident who pleaded anonymity said “The District Head, Alhaji Ibrahim Dawi and 11 others were killed by the Boko Haram militants, who came to the village at about 11pm (Wednesday), and assembled the villagers from their houses and opened fire on them.

The District Head, according to the source was shot by the hoodlums on his head and was dashed to Biu General Hospital where he died shortly after arrival.

“They killed the district head and one of his guards,” a source who pleaded anonymity for security reason
said.

The insurgents continued to shot sporadically after assembling the villagers before fleeing to the bush living the village in serious panic.

The Chairman of neighbouring Hawul Local Government Area of Borno state, Dr Andrew Malgwi, who confirmed the attack, said the recent attack by the insurgents on villages around the southern part of the state is spreading on daily a basis and urged the Federal Government to deploy more security agents to the troubled area with a view to protecting the innocent villagers.

Dr Malgwi said the attack has crippled farming activities within the southern part of the state and beyond. He also forecast a serious famine within the affected communities and neighbouring states as a whole.

Lately, members of the dreaded Boko Haram sect have continued to launch attacks on villages in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe states in the bid to establish an Islamic state in Nigeria.
