Femi Fani-Kayode's take on the National Assembly Fracas, Amaechi’s Statement
Former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode in a press
conference today in Umuahia , Abia State has called on the Federal Government
to sue Rivers State Governor, Chibuike Amaechi for treason. While recalling
what the Governor said in his recent media remarks where he allegedly said the
opposition would form a parallel government if President Jonathan wins the 2015
presidential election amounts to treason.
“When you look at the
comments made by my old friend, Gov. Chibuike Amaechi of Rivers State, I am
alarmed, I am deeply disturbed and discouraged. He said that if PDP comes back
in 2015 that not only would they make the country ungovernable, they would also
set up a parallel government, and that there would be anarchy in this country.”
The former Minister also described what happen yesterday at
the National Assembly as shameful and as what he thinks will never happen in
countries like the US and United Kingdom. Fani also commended the police for
their patience and tolerance saying they did a very good job yesterday.
“For the first time in the history of our country I saw
elected legislators attempting to break down wall, attempting to break down
gates. I saw them scaling the gate. I saw some of them in torn clothes,
struggling through the police lines, I saw them breaking the law, and I saw
them display the highest level of indiscipline and lack of respect for
constituted authority.
“Some public figures
may shy away from speaking the truth but I will not, no matter whoever is
involved.”
“Legislators took the law into their own hands. Broke down
gates, jumped through the gates, fought the police and created commotion and
shameful acts.
“If this were to be in any other country particularly
America or Uk that for whatever reasons a line was drawn by the police and
security agencies, and individuals no matter how high or how much respected or
loved chose to defy them and cross the lines, injured some policemen ( because
the IG told me on phone this morning that some police men were injured), and
they defied the police , went through the tear gas, and ignored the warnings ,
the police would have been forced to use a very high degree of force, he said.
