Woman Dies After Spending 42 Years in a Coma
A WOMAN who has spent 42 years in a coma has died with her sister by her side. Ewarda O'Bara was a high school student in 1970 when she fell ill, threw up her medicine and slipped into a diabetic coma, the Miami Herald reported. O'Bara, whose family's ceaseless dedication inspired a book, died on Wednesday aged 59, Fox News reported.
"It is with great sadness I inform everyone my sister Edwarda is now with the Lord in Heaven,” read a statement by her sister Colleen O'Bara on her website.
"She then closed her eyes and joined my Mom in Heaven.".
O’Bara's mother Kaye, who died five years ago, had been her daughter's constant caretaker since Edwarda
slipped into a coma in 1970 after asking her mother to never leave her side.
She kept her promise, taking care of her daughter until she died five years ago.
Then sister Colleen stepped in and continued taking care of her sister in the Miami Gardens home.
She was turned every two hours to keep away bedsores, given insulin and fed through a tube.
She was read to, had music played for her, and constantly had company.
Kay O'Bara was a devout Catholic who said she felt the presence of the Virgin Mary in her daughter's room. That led Dr Wayne Dyer to write a book.
