Owner Of Brazil Club That Caught Fire & Killed 245 Tries To Commit Suicide
One of the owners of the Brazil nightclub, Kiss, that went up in flames, killing 245, has tried to kill himself while in police custody. Elissandro Spohr had been arrested with three others - another owner of the club, Mauro Hoffman, the vocalist for the band performing that night, Marcelo de Jesus dos Santos, and show producer Luciano Bonilha after the fire.
Though he didn't start the fire, but because safety regulations were not up to code inside his club Spohr was kept under supervision of the police at the hospital he had being taken to for smoke inhalation treatment.
But on Wednesday, the emotional toll got too much for him, that while taking a shower, Spohr removed the shower hose and tied it to a window, but police discovered him before he placed the other end around his neck, Santa Maria Police Chief Lylian Carus said.
"Everything indicates he was going to commit suicide by hanging," she said. "He's emotionally destroyed."
