Police Unmasks ABSU Gang Rapists and Molestation Suspects
The police in Port Harcourt have unmasked the celebrated rapists who were reportedly students of Abia State University, (ABSU), Uturu.
The police have been commended for unraveling the mystery behind the gang rape at the ABSU as published in the social media in 2011.
Briefing newsmen at the Government House, Umuahia, the chief press secretary to AbiaState governor, Mr.UgochukwuEmezue, said the state government and the authorities of ABSU had been vindicated by the findings of the police which showed that the incident never happened at the university, but in a village in Rivers State.
According to him, the police have confirmed that the case is before Magistrate Court 9 in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, the state capital, where the suspects are currently facing trial.
Mr. Emezuesaid that the detractors of the state government who did not want anything good in the government, insisted that the event took place at AbiaState University should now hide their face in shame.
He stated that Abia people were decent and could not indulge in such barbaric act, urgingAbians to ignore
the antics of those who did not mean well for the state.
The police said that contrary to the view that rapists were students of ABSU, a team of detectives from Rivers State had on September 7, 2012, while working on an intelligence report, traced the husband of the victim to Obietetown in Etche local government area of Rivers State. It was the husband who actually told the detectives the true story behind the rape.
The man, who confirmed that the victim was his wife, said that all the suspects of the act were from the same community as him.
According to the report, the detectives were able to trace the suspects and rounded up three out of the five suspects.
They were immediately detained them, while the detectives subsequently invited the husband where the video clip was played in the presence of the suspects.
It was clear from the video clip that the suspects, including the others at large, carried out the most heinous act of rape and went on to place it on the social media.
The report further confirms that both the suspects and the victim of the 2011 gang rage were not students of Abia State University, Uturu.
