PDP Crisis: As another Governor is suspended, More to Dump the Party
Sokoto State Governor, Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko |
The crisis rocking the PDP is getting worse by the day as the party is now shooting itself in the foot by going after some powerful governors.
The PDP said after its 388th National Working Committee (NWC) meeting in Abuja that, “The NWC notes that on several occasions Gov Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko had ignored invitations and lawful directives of the NWC in this regard and has continued to show complete apathy to the affairs of the party and contempt to an organ of the Party.
“Consequent upon the refusal of the Governor to honour yet another invitation by the NWC to appear before it today, Wednesday, June 5, 2013, without any reason, the Committee, it hereby suspends the Governor of Sokoto State, Dr. Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko as a member of the party and refers the matter to the appropriate disciplinary committee of the Party.
“This is in furtherance of the determination of the leadership of the Party to enforce discipline at all levels within the Party,” the statement read.
But leadership contacted him over his suspension; Wamakko said he was unaware of it, adding that he had not been notified as he was out of the country.
All the PDP governors who voted for Gov Rotimi Amaechi that led to him defeating Gov Jonah Jang have been penciled down for humiliation. Others who will get the hammer of the party, based on a directive by the Presidency, are governors Babangida Aliyu (Niger), Murtala Nyako (Adamawa), and another governor from the North East.
Meanwhile, Governor Murtala Nyako has vowed that no amount of intimidation would make him deny the candidate he voted for [Governor Amaechi] who won a free and fair election.
The targeted governors already know themselves and they are determined to surprise the ruling party.
