A 35-year old trader, Afusat Usman, has approached an Agege
Customary Court, Lagos, southwest Nigeria, seeking the dissolution of
their 11-year old marriage over her husband's inability to satisfy her
sexually.
Afusat, a resident of 21, Akinremi Street,
Oke-Aro, while giving the reasons why she wanted to dissolve her 11-year
marriage with her husband, Bashiru Usman, said her hubby cheats on her.
During the court session, Afusat informed the court that her husband
does not have sex with her regularly and that she sleeps alone.
According
to her, Bashiru always cheats on her just as she informed that he
planned to marry a second wife claiming the woman gives him good luck.
The
trader and mother of one claimed that her husband does not care for her
and their child and that she has
been the one responsible for the
upkeep of the home.
"When we didn't have any child, I was the only one running around. He never cared," she narrated.
But Bashir, a 43-year old surveyor, said he does not want the court to dissolve their marriage.
He said that he still loves his wife and her decision to quit was because of her mother's influence.
According
to him, his mother-in-law never wanted him to marry her daughter and
she does not like him. He said that he has been struggling to make ends
meet and that his wife has been there for him.
He said that he
wanted to marry a second wife but since his wife refused he shelved the
idea. The Court President adjourned the case and advised them to be sure
of what they want.
They were also advised to think about their child before making any decisions.
