TRAGEDY!: 18 Passengers Burnt Beyond Recognition In Ghastly Benin-Ore Car Crash

11 men, 5 female adults and 2 female children were today, burnt beyond recognition in a ghastly accident along the notorious Benin-Ore-Lagos expressway.

The crash occurred at 1:20pm and involved 2 vehicles and 20 persons - a bus reg no AKL 484 XA belonging to Peace Mass Transit and a Mack Articulated Truck, ( reg number not available).

It was gathered that the truck laden with gravel had lost one of its tyres and collided with the Peace
Mass Transit bus which was travelling from Onitsha to Lagos.
The impact of the collision reportedly caused fuel to spill from the bus, resulting in fire which burnt the passengers beyond recognition.

Two persons were however rescued from the truck by a combined team of FRSC officials, policemen and sympathizers, who had a hectic time removing the charred bodies of the victims from the bus with battle axes.

The badly burnt bodies of the passengers were deposited at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, UBTH, mortuary.
