Oyo State bans Boko Haram Type Islamic Sect
Oyo State Government has barred the Arsuna Islamic Sect over its alleged involvement in vicious activities ranging from rape to murder.
The
decision has been announced by Mr. Taiwo Otegbeye, the Commissioner for
Information and Orientation, announced at a news conference in Ibadan
on September 20, Friday.
“The
State Executive Council has approved the proscription of Arsuna Islamic
Sect over allegations of rape, murder and slavery,” the commissioner
said.
Mr. Otegbeye said that some members of the sect headed by Yunus Adefobi were being tried in court for various offences.
“Oyo
State Government took the decision to forestall the emergence of Boko
Haram in this part of the country,” the commissioner said.
Announcing
more decisions being important for the state, Mr. Otegbeye said the
meeting, held on September 19, Thursday, also gave approval for the
development of 45 units of luxury apartments. He said that the
construction of the luxury apartments would cost N1.667 billion while
the traffic light would cost N350 million.
The commissioner also informed about installation of solar-powered traffic lights at Agodi Parliament Junction.
