PDP Crisis: Baraje Faction Wants Jail Term for Tukur
The
New PDP faction led by Alhaji Abubakar Kawu Baraje on September 5,
2013, Thursday, stated that their lawyers consider filing a contempt
charge against Alhaji Bamanga Tukur for disobeying the orders of a Lagos
High Court for commenting on the crisis within the party. The
above-mentioned court order tasked both factions to maintain status quo
pending the resolution of the case over the authentic leader of the
party.
Prince
Olagunsoye Oyinlola, the national secretary of the factional party,
revealed such intentions in a statement, which also condemned the call
by Bamanga Tukur, who threatened to sack members of the National Assembly for siding the Baraje faction.
The PDP leader further threatened the arrest of the New PDP officials.
The
New PDP, however, said such a call by Bamanga Tukur (to sack the
National Assembly members of the new PDP) comes out of his disrespect
for the law.
The
faction also reminded him that members of the National Assembly were
elected by the people of Nigeria
and were not his appointees who he
could dismiss.
The
statement said “We have asked our lawyers to press contempt charges
against Tukur because his statement was made in clear contempt of the
orders of Lagos High Court, which three days ago, asked both sides to
maintain the status quo. We will ask the court to commit him to jail for
his disdain for the law and the judicial system.”
