Governor Jonah Jang
Efforts by the Plateau state Governor, Mr Jonah Jang and some members of the state house of Assembly to get rid of the house speaker John Clark Dabwan was successful, as the the speaker has resigned.
The lawmakers had allegedly tried to impeach the Speaker but could not summon the will to oust him on the mere allegation of poor leadership style.
Dabwan signed his resignation from the position yesterday and was immediately replaced by Titus Alams representing Bokkos constituency who was unanimously adopted by the House. He is allegedly Governor Jonah Jang's preferred candidate.
The lawmakers however impeached the Deputy Speaker John Bull Shekarau. An impeached notice signed by 16 members of the house was read by the minority leader Wondung Abas representing Dangi constituency.
Shekarau who was shocked at this development, was replaced by Joyce Ramnap.
Earlier, the former Speaker Dabwan in his farewell message said: “Plateau State has witnessed so many crisis and we cannot continue to inflame it. That is the basis on which I am resigning. I painfully took this decision in the interest of peace and I wish all of us well.”
