A week-long strike is over, the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) have announced on Friday in Abuja.
A
statement, signed by the union's National Secretary Promise Adewusi,
says the susension follows "substantial compliance" by the Federal
Government to meet the Union's demands.
As August and September
salaries have been paid to the Union's members, they were urged to
resume their duties starting from Monday, the 14th of October, 2013.
The Union members were thanked for their solidarity.
The statement also said the non-payment of the salaries would not happen again.
Meanwhile,
the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has been on strike
since July 1 along with the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP),
and have no intentions to go back to work unless the Federal Government
implements a 2009 agreement it had with the said Union.
The authorities have already ordered the stoppage the salaries of the striking lecturers.
On
Friday in Abuja, ASUU delegation led by its President Dr. Nasir Isa
Fagge met with a Federal Government team led by Vice President Namadi
Sambo to resolve the areas of disagreement.
No communique was issued at the end of the meeting.
