ESUT students resumed today amidst ASUU Strike
Despite the resolve of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to continue with its strike action, the management of the Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), has called on its students to resume school.
According to reports, normal academic activities are expected to begin in ESUT today in the first visible signs of disagreement within the academic body over the continuation of the 4 month old strike.
ASUU has issued a statement to the effect that it had nothing to do with the plan by the school’s authorities to resume business as usual in the school.
Leadership reports:
The association stated this in a statement signed by its chairman in ESUT, Prof. Agu Gab Agu and other members of the union.
ASUU said in the statement that it’s attention has been drawn to an announcement by ESUT management that students would resume academic activities on Monday, November 18, 2013.
“The academic staff of ESUT dissociates itself from the above announcement, while
ASUU-ESUT mourns the demise of Professor Festus Iyayi, a former President of ASUU, it awaits the directive of the NEC on the ongoing strike.”
LEADERSHIP gathered that a condolence register had been opened for the late Professor Iyayi at the ASUU Secretariat in ESUT, Agbani campus.
Speaking further, Prof. Agu described the demise of Iyayi as a big loss to ASUU, stating that his death was a big loss to the union, the academia and the country in general.
He prayed that God should grant the family of the late ASUU former President the fortitude to bear the loss.
Meanwhile, our investigations revealed that students of ESUT have already concluded plans to go back to the school.
