PDP CRISES: Jonathan has the final say – Amaechi tells APC leaders after Rivers visit
It seems that despite the many troubles seemingly thrown at him from the apex leadership of the land, Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State still knows to give honour to whom it is due.
This can be deduced from a statement recently credited to the embattled governor in which he reportedly said that he would not leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) without first consulting President Goodluck Jonathan.
Governor Amaechi made this disclosure during a meeting between him and the leaders of rival party, All Progressive Congress (APC), who paid a visit to him yesterday.
Leadership Newspaper reports:
Amaechi, disclosed this while speaking at a reception organized at Government House, Port Harcourt, for the visiting leaders of APC, who were in the state to woo him and his supporters into the opposition party. And the question of everyone’s mind is this: “What would President Jonathan say?”
The APC leaders include; General Muhammadu Buhari, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Chief Bisi
Akande Acting National chairman , AlhajiAminu Bello Masari, Chief Tom Ikimi and Chief John Odigie-Oyegun. Others are; Senator George Akume, Senator Osita Izunaso, Alhaji Lai Mohammed and Hajia Sa’adatu Farouk.
The governor said apart from Jonathan, he would also consult political and opinion leaders in the state and the South-South geo-political zones before making up his mind and promise to give his reply to leaders of the opposition party at a rally that would be held at the Adokiye Amesiameka Stadium in the state capital on a date yet to be fixed.
He said; “We are a group of seven governors. I am peculiar in that group of seven because, the President comes from our zone. Is it not? I will get up, I will consult our leaders. I will consult even you; you are very important. I will consult the President; I will. He is from our zone, don’t worry. We will consult all consultable.”
