Fear has gripped the residents of Maiduguri, the Borno State Capital,
as the dreaded Boko Haram Islamic Sect has again threatened to attack
selected areas of the city.
It was gathered that the Boko Haram Sect singled out the University
of Maiduguri as the next target of its planned attacks on the city.
Apart from the University, the members of the Sect have also warned
residents of Maiduguri to be prepared for another round of assaults for
allegedly collaborating with security agencies in the fight against
terrorism.
A security source hinted that the Boko Haram insurgents also warned
residents to stay away from Federal Roads such as the busy
Maiduguri-Damaturu-Bauchi Road and the Maiduguri, Damboa-Biu-Gombe Road.
The security source who confided in our correspondent on the
rampaging insurgents warned that they would commence frequent attacks on
the highways.
It was said that the insurgents killed some travelers along the Maiduguri Biu Road with the intent to make
good their threat.
The Boko Haram threat is coming at a time when increased vehicular
flow is expected on the strategic highways which connects the Maiduguri
metropolis to other states in the North East and the North Central.
The source said, “For now the city looks calm but there is so much
tension. We just thank God that another attack has not taken place after
the one that took place last month.
“But Maiduguri is tense now because Boko Haram threatening to attack selected places in the city.
“They wrote saying that they would attack the University of
Maiduguri; they also warned people to stay away from Federal highways
such as the Borno-Yobe highway and the Maiduguri-Biu highway. Both you
know, are major highways.
“Already, they have launched an attack on motorists slaughtering
several of them along the Maiduguri-Biu Road. I don’t have the exact
