PARIS – France confirmed Saturday that one of the key leaders
of Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM), Abdelhamid Abou Zeid, had
been killed in fighting with French-led forces in northern Mali.
Considered one of the most radical leaders in Al-Qaeda’s north
African branch, the 46-year-old is credited with having significantly
expanded the terrorist group’s field of operation to Tunisia and Niger,
and for kidnapping activities across the region.
French President Francois Hollande “confirms Abdelhamid Abou Zeid’s
death with certainty during fighting led by the French army in the
Ifoghas mountains in northern Mali in late February”, the Elysee palace
said in a statement.
“The elimination of one of the main leaders of AQIM marks an important stage in the fight against terrorism in the Sahel.”
Abou Zeid’s death was first announced on March 1 by Chadian President
Idriss Deby Itno, whose army is fighting alongside French troops to
secure the Ifoghas.
Two days later, the Chadian army also announced it had killed

“If you don’t like someone’s story,” Chinua Achebe told The Paris Review in 1994, “write your own.”
In his first novel and masterpiece, “Things Fall Apart” (1958), Mr.
Achebe, who died on Thursday at 82, did exactly that. In calm and
exacting prose, he examined a tribal society fracturing under the abuses
of colonialism. The novel has been assigned to generations of American
high school and college students — my college dispatched a copy to me
before my freshman year.
In many respects “Things Fall Apart” is the “To Kill A Mockingbird”
of African literature: accessible but stinging, its layers peeling over
the course of multiple readings.
“Things Fall Apart,” its title taken from William Butler Yeats’s poem
“The Second Coming,” has sold more than 10 million copies and been
translated into some 45 languages. Time magazine placed it on its list
of the 100 best English-language novels from 1923 to 2005.
The novel tells the story of Okonkwo, a stoic clan leader and former
wrestling hero who returns to his village after seven years in exile.
(He’d been sent away after his role in an accidental death.) The changes
that Christian missionaries and other white men have brought are
intolerable to him. “Things Fall Apart” rolls
Nigeria, the Champions of Africa, kicked
off their post-Afcon campaign in Calabar with a disappointing World Cup
qualifying draw at home to Kenya. Despite early confidence on the pitch
and in the stands, the home side failed to spark—they were left stunned
as Francis Kahata gave the Harambee Stars the lead with a sweetly struck
freekick towards the end of the first half. To the immense relief of
the home supporters, Nnamdi Oduamadi sealed a late, stoppage time
equaliser, getting Naija out of jail, and breaking Kenyan hearts.
Stephen Keshi’s forewarning that the occasion for partying was done,
and his insistence that the side were totally focused on seizing a place
in Brazil for the 2014 World Cup were bore out early on, as Naija
looked urgent and progressive. This was tempered this with the composure
and maturity that is increasingly becoming a trademark of this young
side.

In yet another first, Pope Francis had
a lunch meeting with his predecessor, Pope Emeritus, Benedict XVI.
There is no public record of two popes ever meeting in history. At
least, it is the first time in 600 years that Saturday afternoon’s
meeting has taken place.
Pope Francis was flown by helicopter to Castel Gandolfo, the residence of the Pope Emeritus for a private lunch.
Pope Francis succeeded Benedict on March 13 after the latter resigned due to failing health.
They have spoken by telephone since Francis was elected but this is their first face-to-face meeting.
The

But his successor, Boniface VIII who was elected days later, imprisoned

You are always on the road, how many days do you guys have to yourselves?
We
have been trying as much as possible to create time for ourselves. But
most times, we don’t get it. We need more time to rest because

the fact that we have been travelling over the world, we took a break in

Sometime ago, it was rumoured that your latest album, ‘Alingo’ was banned which was later refuted. How did you receive the news?

the movie to Silverbird-Nigeria for it to be reviewed, but it was

the movie is not having the kind of standard the cinema required.

the right time to show the movie because of what is currently happening

When asked by Vanguard if the rumour that they bought a private jet was true, P-Square replied:
"There was nothing like that. I guess because it was included in our
list that whenever we are going for a specific show, the organsiers
must provide us with a private jet. We had a deal with a private jet
company which always hire their private jet to us whenever we are in
need of it. It’s like, we have a private jet at our disposal. I
remember, I once tweeted that a private jet has been included in our
list. That was how people started speculating that Psquare has bought a
private jet. But we always travel with the jet all the time.
Do they plan to buy a private jet someday?
To be honest with you, the way things are going, we are planning to

Sierra Leone’s over 50 years of religious harmony is under threat thanks to the bizarre revelations of a young woman.
Sister Linda Ngaoja’s ‘heavenly journey’ a few weeks ago has turned
her into the equivalent of a movie star, but at the risk of
destabilising a country renowned for its religious tolerance.
The 28-year-old (some say 26) college student claims to have “died” and gone to hell before being taken to heaven.
While in hell, former Libyan strongman Muammar Gaddafi told her he
wanted the mosque he built in Sierra Leone destroyed and replaced with a
church.
She also has a message from the late president of neighbouring
Guinea, Lansana Conte, who wants all the mosques in his country brought
down and replaced with churches.
Sister Linda “died” after a brief illness. She said because of her
worldly crimes in her previous life, she suffered a harrowing experience
in hell, where she met her parents and a host of other renowned people
including a renowned Sierra Leonean lawmaker, and the late US star

Her mother had just died, leaving her an orphan -

In their new home, they had to learn Hebrew from scratch.

The attacks that knocked South Korean banks and media outlets offline
this week appear to be the latest examples of international "cyberwar."
But among the many ways that digital warfare differs from conventional
combat: There's often no good way of knowing who's behind an attack.
South Korean investigators said Friday they were wrong when they
identified a Chinese Internet address as the origin of a cyberattack
that paralyzed tens of thousands of computers at six South Korean
companies this week. But they still believe the attack originated from
somewhere abroad.
Seoul's Korea Communications Commission said that an Internet
Protocol address linked to Wednesday's attack actually belonged to a
computer at one of the South Korean companies that were hit.
Commission officials said the IP address was used only for the
company's internal network and was identical to a public Chinese
address.
Investigators said an analysis of malware and servers indicates the
attack was likely orchestrated from abroad. They didn't elaborate.
Experts in Seoul suspect Pyongyang of orchestrating the attack. The investigation will likely take weeks.
