CHAN2014: Bafana Bafana Coach Admits Super Eagles Deserved Their Victory

The head coach of Bafana Bafana, Gordon Igesund, said in Cape Town that the Super Eagles deserved their 3-1 win against his team in their final Group A match at the ongoing 2014 African Nations Championship (CHAN) on January 19, 2014, Sunday.
The coach of the host nation made this statement at the post-match news conference.
“The Nigerian side not only brought their physical approach to bear on my team, but did the needful to win the pulsating encounter,” Mr. Gordon Igesund noted.
Coach Igesund also said he felt satisfied with the work he had been doing with the Bafana Bafana team.
He added that he was not in any way placed under pressure by the threat of a sack by the South African Football Authorities.
In his reaction, the Super Eagles’ coach, Stephen Keshi, hailed the performance put up by his team’s
goalkeeper, Chigozie Agbim.
“It was a man-of-the-match performance he put in for the team,” he said.
Coach Keshi said the goalkeeper had learnt from his previous mistakes and made amends in the keenly-contested match against the hard-fighting South Africans.
“We all make mistakes and I believe that Agbim has learnt from his past mistakes, and I want to also commend all the players for putting up a good performance in the match,” he said.
The win meant hosts South Africa exited the championship with four points from three matches, after Mali topped the group with seven points and Nigeria came second with six points.
