FINALLY: IG of Police, MD Abubakar Speaks Out on Alleged Shooting of Senator Abe
The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Abubakar, has ordered a full-scale investigation into the alleged Jan. 12 shooting of Senator Magnus Abe by the police in the capital city of Rivers State, Port Harcourt.
The
IGP had directed a special team of investigators from the Force CID to
visit the scene of the incident and interview all relevant parties,
including the organizers of the event, police officers and other key
witnesses, in order to get full and unbiased data on the incident that
could aid the ongoing investigation.
This
has been contained in a statement read by Mr. Frank Mba, the Public
Relations Officer of the Police Force, in Abuja on January 15, 2014,
Wednesday.
Also noticed that said MD Abubakar promised to ensure fairness and justice to all.
“The IG calls on the citizens of the state to cooperate with the investigative team,maintain calm and shun all inflammatory or presumptuous statements. He further urged the good people of Rivers State to continue to respect the laws of the land while going about their normal businesses,” it stated.
