Stop Our Men from Decamping to APC - Akpabio begs Tambuwal
Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom has appealed to the Speaker of
the House of Reps, Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal, to stop further defection of
members of Peoples Democratic Party in the National Assembly to the
leading opposition party, the APC.
It will be recalled that 37 members of the House of Representatives
elected on the platform of PDP had last month defected to the All
Progressives Congress, giving the opposition a simple majority in the
House.
In his words: “You must do everything humanly possible to avoid further defection of PDP members in the National Assembly. Even those that have defected, we want to implore you to do your best to convince them to come back because the umbrella is not torn. The umbrella can accommodate them and can still cover them very well.”
In his reaction, Tambuwal simply told Akpabio that he was in the state to discuss national issues.
But Akpabio asked the Speaker to help convince the defectors to return
to the party. Akpabio’s position was contained in a statement issued
after Tambuwal paid him a courtesy visit in Uyo on Monday.
It was gathered all
efforts by Akpabio to drag Tambuwal into political discussions during
his visit to the state was politely turned down.
