Three men are currently in police custody in Oyo state over the death
of a man, Dauda Raji , who was said to have drank a herbal concoction
forced on him by the men which included his son identified as Taofeek
Raji.
According to reports, the suspects admitted to have administered the
concoction claiming it was meant to cure the deceased of mental
illness.
It was gathered that the deceased had called his lawyer, Bello
Babatunde on January 30 at about 10.00 p.m saying that his son Taofeek,
and two others wanted to kill him.
Nigerian Tribune
reports:
It was further learnt that the lawyer went to the
man’s house at Oje area the following day at about 7.00 a.m., only to
meet the man locked up in a building while Taofeek and two others were
outside.
On inquiry by the lawyer, the reason why Raji was locked up, his
son was said to have replied that his
father was mentally ill and he
and others wanted to administer traditional medicinal concoction on him
to relieve him of the illness.
On the same day, at about 12 noon, the lawyer reportedly received
another call from late Raji, insisting that his son and two others
wanted to kill him again.
By the time the lawyer got to the man’s house later in the evening of the same day, he found out that he was dead.
The Nigerian Tribune, however, gathered that the relations of the deceased quickly buried him the following morning.
Confirming the story, the Police Public Relations Officer,
Olabisi Okuwobi-Ilobanafor said that the three suspects had been
transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID),
Iyaganku, Ibadan, for further investigation.
