Yola, Adamawa State - Governor Murtala Nyako cleared the air on the incident he was involved in while visiting Shuwa town in Madagali LGA of the State. His convoy was not attacked, but the soldiers' warning of another Boko Haram attack prompted him and his entourage to leave the premises.
According to the governor, some people approached him as he was about to enter his car after commiserating with the local residents, and said Boko Haram members were around. Then, one of the soldiers started shooting, and the governor with his escort hurried to leave the scene.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), four shots were fired by the soldier, and locals also ran to safety.
On Friday, governor Nyako visited Madagali and Michika, the towns assaulted by Boko Haram on Wednesday, to assess the level of damage and offer condolences to residents. He was accompanied by
Speaker of the legislature Alhaji Ahmadu Fintiri, Commissioner of Police, John Abakasangha, Secretary to the Government, Chief Kobis Thimnu, and a number of commissioners.
