Nyesom Wike
Reports indicates that the minister of state and supervising
minister of education, Nyesom Wike has submitted his letter of
resignation to President Goodluck Jonathan.
Sources reveal to The
Paradigm that the minister’s resignation is to enable him pursue his
ambition of becoming the next governor of Rivers State after the
expiration of the tenure of the incumbent, Hon. Rotimi Amaechi.
The
minister was said to have briefed the President of his intention to
contest for the Rivers governorship election in 2015, to which he got
the approval of the President to challenge the growing profile of the
Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi. The resignation which is expected to take effect from April 1, 2014 has gotten the approval of the president.
But
another source within the Villa, confirmed that Wike’s resignation will
be announced next week
Wednesday during the Federal Executive Council
(FEC) meeting.
Wike has been in running battle with Governor
Amaechi, notorious for using the former Rivers State Commissioner of
Police, Joseph Mbu, who is a very close ally of the President’s wife,
Mrs Patience Jonathan, to attack the interest of the governor.
He
was behind the group of five members of the House of Assembly who tried
to impeach the Rivers State House of Assembly Speaker, with another
ally, Evans Bipi claiming to be the new speaker.
