WATCH: Russian TV reporter resigns live on air over RUSSIA-UKRAINE Crimea Crisis
A reporter for Russia Today in the US dramatically resigned live on air in protest at Vladimir Putin’s effective invasion of Ukraine and occupation of Crimea.
Liz Wahl, the Washington correspondent for RT-America, part of the network that used to be known as Russia Today, said she could no longer work for a channel that ‘whitewashes the actions of Putin’.
Her on-air resignation came days after her colleague Abby Martin said ‘military intervention is never the answer’ and that Russia was in the wrong.
Channel bosses offered to send Ms Martin to Crimea so she could learn more about the region’s history, but she rejected the move.
In resigning, Ms Wahl said her own family had fled Hungary during the revolution to escape Soviet forces.
‘I’m proud to be an American and believe in disseminating the truth, and that is why after this news cast, I
am resigning,’ she said.
