After the Wednesday mutiny by the Nigerian soldiers of the 7th Division in Maiduguri Barracks, the division GOC, Major General Ahmed Mohammed, was removed, Vanguard reports.
It
would be recalled that the soldiers started shooting sporadically at
Maimalari Barracks, Maiduguri, Borno State, because they were angry with
the killing of their colleagues during an ambush, dissatisfied with not
being given adequate weaponry and because of non-timely payment of
allowances.
Following the mutiny the Nigerian military officials promised to investigate the incident.
Vanguard
report indicates that Major General Mohammed was replaced by Brigadier
General Mahmud Yakubu Ibrahim as Acting GOC. The appointment is said to
come into immediate effect.
