KD BLOG recently reported that Governor of Akwa Ibom, Godswill Akpabio, presented
a bill to the State House of Assembly asking to be paid N100 million
every year for his medical bills, as part of his pensions package.
He also demanded that this pensions
package should be available to not just him, but also to all elected
former governors and deputy governors of the state.
The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly has passed this bill into law, according to Punch.
In addition to the N100 million medical
retirement allowance, all elected former governors and deputy governors
of the state will also be provided with funds to “employ a cook,
chauffeurs and security guards for the governor at a sum not exceeding
N5 million (or the equivalent of $50,000) per month and N2 million
per
month for the deputy governor,” and other allowances.
