It gets worse: Maigari, 2 others picked up by the SSS in Abuja
The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) President, Aminu Maigari was earlier today arrested by men of the State Security Service in Abuja.
Maigari who was arrested with two principal officers of the Federation, Musa Amadu and Chris Green, was scheduled to preside over the ongoing general assembly at Chida Hotel in the Federal Capital Territory.
The Nation Newspapers report that the Chairmen of all the Football Associations in each state have resolved to place their support behind the embattled chairman by matching to the SSS office to demand his release.
“The FA chairmen refused to be cowed despite threat by heavily armed policemen that they will shoot them down if they leave the premises of the Chida hotel, Abuja,” an eyewitness said.
“They left for the SSS office and had made it clear that Maigari will preside over Tuesday’s congress despite this open intimidation.”
World football governing body, FIFA, has already stated Maigari will lead the NFF congress.
The congress is expected to design a road map for elections into the NFF executive committee.
