According to news coming from Daily Newswatch, Alpha Jet (NAF
466) which belongs to the Nigerian Army that was declared missing in
action was seen by locals before it crashed.
The plane was reported to have crashed on Saturday around Gabun village near Gaanda in Gombi Local Government of the state.
Local farmers in Gombi LGA yesterday told newsmen that the saw the jet crash close to Gabun primary school.
They reportedly said that it was a ‘low-flying jumbo jet’ which fit the description of the missing jet.
Meanwhile several residents of Hawul, a small town in Borno State
said that the aircraft they saw had green red stripes was flying
worrying low over the regions mountains.
The residents, made up of mostly local farmers said that the
incredible loud sound of the jet had disturbed them on Friday and they
noticed that the jet was travelling from the north to south-east,
towards Hawul–
Gabun.
One witness said:
I’ve never seen a jet flying so low over our
mountains before. We’ve seen planes, but I’m sure that this was not one
of those. I could even make out the doors on the plane clearly.
“It’s not just me; several other residents have reported seeing
the same thing. Some people got out of their houses to see what was
causing the tremendous noise too.”
Sources state that the aircraft might have crash landed at Gabun near
the primary school but thankfully no local relative has been reported
dead or affected.
Gabun is a mountainous terrain, which runs through Biu in Borno State.
The area is not far of from Michika and Madagali Local Government areas of the state where the army were actively engaged against insurgent forces last week.
