Husband begs court to dissolve 20-year-old marriage over ‘sex starvation’
Adetoro Onipede has asked a Customary Court, sitting in Igando, Lagos, to dissolve his 20-year-old marriage, over ‘sexual intercourse’ issues.
50-year-old Onipede filed a suit on 21 August seeking for the dissolution of his marriage, which had produced three children, on the ground of sex starvation by his wife.
Onipede claimed that his wife refused to have sex with him since 14 years ago, when she gave birth to her last child. He also accused her of emasculating him, by telling people, whenever she assists financially in the home.
He said, “She always starves me of sex and will not even allow me to touch her. Any time I tried to force myself to do it, she will pick up a dangerous weapon to stab me. Any time I am short of money and my wife paid the children’s fees or buy food in the house, she will tell our neighbours, her friends and even inform her family.”
He told the court that he wanted to move on with his life, and as such, the union had to be dissolved.
Responding to the allegations, 42-year-old Olubunmi, said she stopped allowing her husband to have sex
with him, after turning her into a prostitute.
“My husband had turned me into a prostitute; he will not give me money except after making love to me. I am a wife and not a girl friend or sex worker, so I stopped him from making love to me,” Olubunmi said.
The wife, however, begged the court not to grant her husband’s desire, saying she was still in love with him.
In his ruling, ,the President of the court, R.I Adeyeri said, “all efforts to reconcile the couple had proved futile as the petitioner insisted on divorce. Both parties are no longer husband and wife, they are free to go their separate ways.”
