The Court of Appeal sitting in Lagos today delivered judgement in favor
of the FRSC in an Appeal filed by the FRSC against the judgement of the
Federal High Court, Lagos in the case of Emmanuel Ofoegbu v FRSC on 26th
March 2014.The Fed High Court had ruled that the FRSC had no powers to
set deadlines for motorists to change over to the new number plates and
drivers licence. In a Judgment delivered by Justice Joseph Ike with
Justice Ndukwe Anyanwu and Justice Tukur as members, the Court of Appeal
:
1. Upheld the validity of the National Road Traffic Regulations 2012.

held that the validity of the old number plate bought by the Respondent
expired on 13th October 2014 the deadline issued by FRSC.
3.
dissolved the Order of injunction by the trial court restraining FRSC
from setting deadline for change over to the new number plates and
observed that the 13th October 2014 deadline had passed.
The
Corps Marshal & Chief Executive, FRSC Boboye Oyeyemi has expressed
satisfaction about the judgement and commended the Judiciary for a clear
interpretation of the existing law on number plates and
driver's
licence. He enjoined motorists to comply with the law while urging them
to drive safely as the year winds to a close.
