Farmer Hacks Man Who Slept With His Wife To Death
A 30-year-old farmer, Waheed Suleiman, was today remanded in
prison by an Ilorin Magistrates’ Court in Kwara State, over alleged murder. The
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that Suleiman, with two others now at
large, allegedly hacked to death one Ismaila Hassan with cutlass.
According to the prosecutor, Corporal Salahudeen Ahmed, the
accused and his partners in crime committed the offence on October 20.
"Having hacked their victim to death, they later tied
him to his Bajaj motorcycle before throwing him into the Asa River,” he said.
Ahmed said that the accused carried out the act because he
caught the deceased having sexual intercourse with his wife some time in April.
He added that when Suleiman threatened to have his wife and
the deceased killed, they both ran away from Suta Village in the Asa Local
Government Area of Kwara State.
"However, the accused accepted the plea of the elders
of the village to allow his wife and the deceased to return to the village.
"Police investigation, however, revealed that the
accused and his accomplices attacked the deceased with cutlasses, which led to
his untimely death,” he said.
Ahmed said the accused was appearing before the court on a
one-count charge of culpable homicide, contrary to Section 221 of the Penal
Code.
He prayed the court not to grant him bail, saying that
investigations were still ongoing.
The magistrate, Funke Olokoyo, ordered the remand of the
accused at the Okekura Prisons, Ilorin and adjourned the case till December 12
for further mention.
