AFCON Competition Moved From January-Feb To June-July, And Upgraded to 24 Teams Starting From 2019
22:17
In order to avoid causing disputes with European clubs who have
to release their players in mid-season, January/February, the African
Cup of all Nations (AFCON) has shifted the date of the tournament from
the usual January date to June/July and this will start from 2019...
The changes were effected by the CAF executive committee in a meeting
in the Moroccan capital Rabat today, Friday as the 2019 event to be
held in Cameroon will now be contested by 24 teams instead of the usual
16 so that smaller African nations can participate.
According to new CAF President, Ahmad Ahmad , the competition will still hold once every two years.
