Enugu LGA Chairmen Deny Going Into Hiding Because Of EFCC Officials
The Local Government Chairmen in Enugu State under the aegis of Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON) have described as false and laughable the allegation in the social media that they have gone into hiding from the officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Reacting to the spurious allegation, the State Chairman of ALGON, Hon. Frank Ugwu, said that the Council Chairmen have no issue and were never invited by the EFCC, maintaining that they are not hiding as mischievously alleged.
Hon. Ugwu disclosed that all his colleagues were at the Carol of Nine Lessons organized earlier this evening by the state government at the Michael Okpara Square, Enugu and had earlier attended the Enugu North and East Senatorial Districts Prayer sessions at Nsukka and Nkanu West Local Government Areas respectively.
He added that the council chairmen are not surprised by such falsehood and blatant lies, knowing full well the antics of the sponsor of the baseless allegation and his ulterior motive.
The ALGON Chairman described the sponsor as an interested party in the governance of the state, who has abandoned his governorship campaign and resorted to his usual cheap blackmail, mischief and blatant lies against the people-oriented government of Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi that has a track record of good governance, prudence, accountability and transparency”.
His words: “This is not only blatant lies, but the handiwork of a known political element in Enugu State, who is unpopular and irrelevant, but has unfortunately resorted to campaign of calumny in his failed attempt to mislead the public, knowing full well that he has lost out in the forthcoming election. We therefore, challenge him to provide evidence to substantiate his mischievous allegation”.
While urging the public to disregard the claims as untrue and misleading, the ALGON Chairman revealed that the detractors in their crass desperation will still sponsor more spurious allegations in the days ahead.
