Presidential Tribunal: Atiku, PDP Close Case After Calling 62 Witnesses

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar have finally closed their case at the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal, Igbere TV reports.

Igbere TV had earlier reported that the Tribunal, today, turned down the request by PDP and Atiku for more time to prosecute their case. The 10 days earlier given them expires Friday (today).

The PDP and Atiku are challenging the victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its candidate, Muhammadu Buhari in the February 23, 2019 presidential election.

At the conclusion of the testimony of their star and last witness, Osita Chidoka, the PDP and Abubakar formally closed their case today.

Chidoka, an Aviation Minister under the administration of Goodluck Jonathan, served as the National Collation Officer of the PDP in the 2019 poll.

Although Chidoka claimed in his written statement, that results were transmitted electronically, he could not, under cross-examination, sustain that claim.

He said INEC Chairman spoke about INEC server, but said he got information that results were transmitted to it form a whistle-blower.

The court has adjourned till July 29 for the defendants to open their defence, beginning with INEC, listed as the first defendant. APC and Buhari are listed as second and third defendants.
