The Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Sanusi Lamido Sanusi has once again stirred up the polity with his controversial remarks.
This time, the Governor openly calls for the ban on religious and ethnic associations.
Speaking at an inter-faith dinner organised by the Northern Reawakening Forum (NRF) in Abuja on Tuesday, January 15, 2013, he said, ‘I almost didn’t want to attend this occasion because I am opposed to regional, ethnic and religious groupings in this country.
In fact, I would like the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Jamatul Nasril Islam (JNI), Afenifere and all such other groups to be banned’.
Sanusi defended his call for the ban by accusing religious, ethnic and regional organizations as having political agenda. ‘People now float all sorts of associations that threaten the security of the country so as to be
recognized’, Sanusi also added.
It would be recalled that late last year, the Central Bank Governor who always speaks his mind, stirred up a controversy when in one of his statements, he called for the sack of 50% of the civil service.
