Delta PDP Chieftain Assassinated In Asaba

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party in Delta State, Hon. Emmanuel Chikwene, has been killed by unknown gunmen. The victim, a father of two girls – Awele and her little sister – was killed inside his house at Dr. R.N. Okonkwo Street, Ogbeowele New-Layout, Okpanam in Asaba, the state capital, at about 4.30am few minutes after he allegedly returned from a political meeting.

Before he was brutally murdered, he represented his ward on the platform of
the Peoples Democratic Party at the local government level as councilor in Udumuje-Ugboko in Aniocha North Local Government Area of the oil rich state. The hoodlums cut the barbwire of his house before they scaled the parameter fence, tied his security guard, gained entrance into his living room and shot him in the
stomach.

Before they left him in the pool of his blood, they smashed up the heavily fortified burglary of the room where he escaped into when he sensed danger, twisted and tied his hands and legs.

His assailants struck when his family members, including his wife and children, were away to Sapele.

While a faction of neighbours around the locality said his assailants laid siege to his compound, return, others said they trailed him to his house from the meeting venue at about 4am.

He was said to have argued vehemently at several political meetings and maintained hard stance on issues bordering on the political fortune of the local government area.

He was said to be interested in returning as a councilor for his ward or aspire to a higher political office.

When contacted, a top police officer at the Okpanam Divisional Headquarters, said: “Yes, we have received signal about the murder.

“We have deployed our men to the scene and investigation is on, on the immediate and remote circumstances surrounding the incident.”
