ANAMBRA GOVERNORSHIP POLL: INEC Official Who Ruined Election In Police Custody

The Commissioner of Police in Anambra, Mr Bala Nasarawa, on Sunday confirmed the arrest of an electoral official involved in Saturday’s governorship election in the state.
Nasarawa told journalist in Awka that the state Police Command was interrogating the official but declined to mention his name.
The commissioner was reacting to inquisitions about the statement credited to the Chairman of INEC, Prof. Attahiru Jega, that the official who bungled the elections in Obosi in Idemili North Local Government Area, had been handed over to the police.
"Yes, I can confirm to you that we arrested one official, but I don’t know if that is the one you are talking about," he said.
Jega had  said on a live television programme monitored in Abuja, that  the  electoral  officer was being detained by the police in Anambra State.
According to him, the electoral official in charge of Idemili North LGA messed up the distribution of ballot
papers and result sheets which was the cause of delay in the distribution of materials in that area.
He said the official was used to subvert all the preparations made by INEC.
He also said people should not generalise or condemn the whole INEC as it was just one person who committed the offence.
“So, they used our official. I think we should be very careful when we have about 12,000 members of staff in INEC and when one person commits an offence, you use it to generalise or condemn everybody in INEC.
“Our electoral officer in charge of Idemili North LGA , for inexplicable reasons, messed up the distribution of ballot  papers and result sheets. That was the cause of the delay in the distribution of materials in Idemili," Jega said.
