10 APC Reps disown Shekarau over defection
Ten All Progressives Congress members of
the House of Representatives from Kano State have disowned a former
Governor of the state, Ibrahim Shekarau, for defecting to the People
Democratic Party.
The lawmakers, who were Shekarau’s loyalists before the latest development, said they did not support his defection.
The lawmakers vowed to remain in the APC and resist any pressure on them to follow Shekarau to the PDP.
The Deputy Minority Leader of the House,
Sumaila Kawu, who spoke on behalf of the lawmakers, said they were
disappointed with their leader’s decision.
“We are not leaving the APC to any
political party, we will not be part of the political realignment going
on at home where our leader, Shekarau, has defected to the PDP today,”
he said.
Meanwhile, Governor of Niger State, Dr. Babangida Aliyu, has given reasons why he refused to defect to
the APC.
Aliyu, who led a delegation of members of
his party on a courtesy call on the National Chairman of the party,
Adamu Mu’azu, in Abuja on Wednesday, said he refused to follow his
colleagues to the opposition party because of his love for the ruling
party.
He said his refusal to leave the party
was as a result of his love for the party and the respect he had for the
people of the state, who he said, asked him to remain in PDP.
The governor was a key member of the
aggrieved seven governors of the party who went round the country to
complain about the leadership of the party under its former National
Chairman, Bamanga Tukur.
But on Wednesday, Aliyu said, “I led the
protest which came to be known as G.Seven. It was not intended to kill
the party and move away.
“I didn’t move away. Many people asked
me, you left a group, how come you didn’t move? I tell them that I
didn’t move because my conscience, understanding and my position is with
the PDP. “
Also, speaking at the national
secretariat, a former Governor of Sokoto State, Attahiru Bafarawa, said
it was unfortunate that the APC had yet to have membership cards six
months after it was formed.
