G5 governors to PDP: It’s too late to return
The five disenchanted governors of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, who defected to the All Progressives Congress, APC, last year, have dashed the hope of their former party to get them back to its fold.
The quintuplet, while reacting to the setting up of a committee by the National Chairman, Adamu Mu’azu, to woo them back, said that it was rather too late for them to think of returning to the party.
Three of the governors, who spoke to Vanguard, last night, pointed out that there was nothing the party could do to win them back, as they were already settling down in their new party and for good.
Kano State governor, Musa Rabiu Kwankwaso, said it amounted to sheer wishful thinking for the party to imagine that they would return to its fold after all it did to them.
Kwankwaso, who spoke through his Director of Media and Press Affairs, Mr. Halilu Dantiye, noted that although the chairman of the party, Mu’azu, was his friend, it was impossible for him to go back to the PDP.
The governor said: “It is a wishful thinking by what remains of the PDP to assume that His Excellency, Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso or any of the five governors will return to the party. No doubt, Mu’azu is a good friend to Kwankwaso but it is late for the PDP.”
Adding his voice to the matter, Adamawa State governor, Murtala Nyako, said it was unthinkable for him or his colleagues to return to PDP after signing up for the APC.
The governor disclosed that he had already taken firm steps to make APC the ruling party in his state and was not in any way contemplating returning to the PDP.
Speaking through his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Mr. Ahmad Sajoh, Nyako made it clear that he was pre-occupied with nurturing the APC into a veritable tool for national development rather than thinking of going back to his former party.
Sajoh noted: “A lot of water has passed under the bridge. It is no longer about who leads the PDP but about the credibility and ability of the party’s leadership to provide Nigeria with development options.
“Governor Nyako has already taken firm steps to effectively position the APC as the ruling party in Adamawa State and there is no going back on it. Building the APC into a veritable tool for national development is the governor’s major concern for now.”
Meanwhile, Governor Ibrahim Shema of Katsina State said, yesterday, that nobody can stampede President Goodluck Jonathan to declare his interest in contesting the 2015 election, saying that Jonathan would make his intention known at the appropriate time.
Shema also said that the reconciliation being initiated by the National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu, will lead to the return of Governors Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara; Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko of Sokoto; Musa Kwankwaso of Kano, Murtala Nyako of Adamawa and Chibuike Amaechi of Rivers states, who decamped to the opposition, All Progressives Congress, APC, to PDP.
