”They filmed a lodger’s sex session” - 3 hotel attendants arraigned for blackmail

Three hotel attendants have been charged before a Magistrate Court for recording a lodgers’ sexual experience, and subsequently blackmailing the customer.
The hotel employees had used the hotel’s CCTV to record the lodgers’ sex session with his girlfriend, after which they demanded a sum of N10 million, else they would release the video to the public.
The accused trio recorded the video clip on Wednesday, 13 August, at a hotel in Ogudu, and produced it on a VCD, after which they threatened to put it on Facebook, but when they got no response, they reportedly circulated to residents of the area.
The suspects, Sunday Okon, Rita Emmanuel, Goodness Akpan, were charged on four counts of fraud, demanding property with menace, conspiracy and indecent practices before an Ogudu Chief Magistrates’ court in Lagos on Thursday, 28 August.
The prosecutor, Uche Simon told the court that on the accused actually posted it on the Facebook between 13 and 23 August. He said the offences contravened Sections 136, 166 (d), 299 and 409 of Criminal Law
of Lagos State, 2011.
If convicted, Okon, Emmanuel and Akpan, who pleaded not guilty to the charges, face a minimum of three years.
They were granted bail in the sum of N100,000 each with two sureties each in like sum, and they have been taken to Kiri Kiri prisons.
The case has been adjourned to 19 September by Chief Magistrate, Mrs O. J. Awope.
