Reports say hundreds of Nigerian soldiers are making their way out of Mubi, Adamawa State as men believed to be members of the Boko Haam Islamic sect make advances towards the town.
The insurgents, who were said to have attacked Uba Local Government Area yesterday, reportedly took over Mararaba Hildi, a few kilometers from Mubi, prompting the outward movement of soldiers.
According to the Punch, soldiers were seen leaving with their armoured personnel carriers.
The newspaper quoted an unnamed source saying, “It was an embarrassment seeing soldiers running away with their weapons. As I am taking to you now, I am in Kala and I saw the soldiers in convoys of cars leaving the town.
“It is just a pity that we are not telling ourselves the truth, because there is nothing like ceasefire with Boko Haram. People are just suffering and somebody is out there playing politics with their lives.
“It was just a pity that I was driving and could not take the picture of those fleeing soldiers. This country is in
serious trouble.”
The Federal Government recently announced a ceasefire agreement with the Boko Haram leadership but there have been reports of continued attacks in the troubled areas of the North-east.
Observers have expressed doubts over the said agreement as no member of the insurgent group has publicly given credence to such claims but the FG insists that a deal was struck and discussions are still ongoing.
