(NAN) – The Catholic diocese of Makurdi, Benue, has barred the
faithful from taking corpses of late relations to churches for funeral
Mass as a measure to check the spread of Ebola virus.
The diocese directed that corpses of deceased members should be given immediate burial.
It, however, said that it would allow
corpses to be brought to the churches in the area only when death
certificates issued by relevant medical authorities were produced.
This is contained in a statement by the Director of Communications in the diocese, Rev. Fr. Moses Iorapuu, in Makurdi on Saturday.
The statement, which was issued on behalf of Bishop of the diocese, Rev. Athanissius Usu, also announced changes in two aspects of activities during mass, including the mode of administering the Holy Communion.
According
to the statement, parishioners will henceforth be served the
eucharistic feast on their hands as

(Reuters/NAN) – The International Olympic Committee (IOC), said on
Friday it was prohibiting young athletes from countries affected by
Ebola from participating in certain events at the Youth Olympic Games
in Nanjing, China.
A
statement issued by the IOC said athletes from West Africa, where
authorities are battling an outbreak of the Ebola virus, will not be
allowed to compete in combat sports or in the swimming pool.
The joint statement was endorsed by the Nanjing Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee.
It
said it was impossible to rule out the risk of potential infection if
athletes from the region were allowed to compete in combat sports.
The
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that Team Nigeria withdrew from
the competition after its athletes were isolated and barred from
training because of the outbreak of the Ebola virus.
Nigeria’s Consul General in Shanghai, Amb. Ayo Otepola, told NAN that the decision by Nigerian team to withdraw was done in the “best interest’’ of the country.
The Nigerian Minister of Health Professor Onyebuchi Chukwu announced the first Nigerian Ebola patient declared fit and has been discharged from hospital.
Chukwu told reporters on Saturday that
the patient whose identity is being withheld, was asked to go home after
all the necessary medical examinations were carried out.
“The total number of Ebola cases now
stands at 12, while the number of deaths remains four. The people under
surveillance in Lagos is now 189, while six are in Enugu, in southeast
Nigeria”, he said.
He also announced that the Nano-Silver
drug, which was to be used on infected victims, did not meet the
requirements of the National Health Research ethics code.

The Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Lagos State Police
Command has arrested 39 year old Akeem Ogunniran, an indigene
of Osun State, who allegedly robs jewelries merchants of their jewelries after drugging them.
Akeem was arrested after he
allegedly drugged two women then robbed them of their jewelry valued
at about N7million. Feigning to be a wealthy man, Police say Akeem,
after identifying
jewelry dealers will invite them to his hotel room, claiming he wants to
buy jewelry from them. When they get to his hotel room, he will offer
them drinks already drugged and immediately his victims fall under the
influence of the sedative, he then absconds with their goods.

say he'd been arrested several times for similar cases but had
managed to escape prosecution

Suddenly,

U. S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) suffers huge social media
backlash from Nigerians yesterday, over its description of Nano Silver
as a pesticide, a drug which was recently announced by the country’s
Health Minister, Onyebuchi Chukwu, to be an experimental treatment of
patients affected with the deadly Ebola disease.
The FDA’s
warning was made on the heels of comments by Chukwu, who reportedly said
on Thursday that eight Ebola patients in Lagos will receive an
experimental treatment called nano-silver.
The agency said it had
received consumer complaints about the Ebola claims. “Individuals
promoting these unapproved and fraudulent products must take immediate
action to correct or remove these claims or face potential FDA action,”
the agency said.
As the US FDA’s warning went viral, Nigerians erupted with
outrage on social media as they mostly express the need for their
country to protect lives of its citizenry after US declined giving out
its’ Zimapp.

The Imo state police command have successfully rescued and returned
two babies abducted from their mothers a few hours after they were born.

mother and their three children were found dead in their home yesterday
Friday August 15th at Temidire Community, in Sabo, Abeokuta North LGA of
Ogun State
The dead people have been identified as Aliu Adeboye, his younger wife identified as
Iya Aliya and three of Adeboye's six children.
Findings have shown that, the late Adeboye had two wives and six children before the incident. Further
findings have also revealed that, the first wife, and her three
children who slept in another room in the same six-room bungalow were

to straighten out the wrinkles on his face with a much needed vacay.
He was photographed on Friday 15th August 2014, cycling with his family.
This comes as no surprise as the first lady is all about tackling obesity in America and encourages children to work out.

Recently, the Lagos State Police Command paraded three suspected members
of a deadly kidnap gang who confessed to have masterminded the kidnap
of the wife and daughter of a sitting Supreme Court Judge, Justice,
Bode Rhodes Vivour and the gruesome murder of a former Deputy Governor
of Anambara State, Chudi Nwike.
They further confessed to have worked for the dreaded Delta State born
kidnap kingpin Kelvin Oniarah, Kelvin who was rumored to have
maintained and coordinated over 50 kidnapping and robbery cells within
the 12 states of these regions, as well as declared himself a freedom
fighter in 2013, formed a movement called the ‘Liberation Movement of
the Urhobo People, LIMUP, demanding for amnesty for himself and members
of his gang.
One of the suspects, 32-year-old Monday Odiete, told Crime Guard during
an interaction, that Kelvin was elusive because he had trusted
surbodinates. Odiete who said he operated one of the cells in Benin,
Edo State, disclosed that Kelvin coordinated his gangs from any part of
these regions.
He emerged from his room in a red T-shirt and blue denim on Sunday,
August 3, 2014 in a state of despair and sober reflection. Slowly
settling down in a white plastic chair in the hotel lobby where he had
agreed to speak with our correspondent, he told a rather unusual story
of his ordeal in the hands of his close friend who lured him into
selling one of his kidneys for just $7,500 (N1.2m).
When I was tricked into selling my kidney for money, it was even a close
friend of mine that introduced me into the trade. And I did not doubt
him for a second. I wanted my life to change positively. I did not know
he would eventually betray me due to the trust I had in him. Things were a bit tough for me then and I was desperate to make a change in my life.
