Carlton Bryan, 21, is accused of hiring a hitman to kill his pregnant girlfriend, Shamari Jenkins, because she didn’t want to get an abortion, prosecutors say.

A Connecticut man enraged that his pregnant girlfriend wouldn’t get an abortion allegedly hired a hitman to kill her, according to court documents.

Shamari Jenkins, 20, was killed in April. Police say her boyfriend put
 a hit on her because she was pregnant and wouldn’t get an abortion.

Carlton Bryan, 21, was riding with Shamari Jenkins, who was four months pregnant, when she was fatally shot April 29 while driving in Hartford’s North End, police said.

The bullet hit her shoulder and traveled through her torso, police said. She and her unborn baby boy were pronounced dead at the hospital.

During Bryan’s arraignment Friday, Prosecutor Cathryn Krinitsky called the crime “egregious,” and said that he wanted Jenkins dead because she “previously decided to have an abortion but decided not to,” The Hartford Courant reported.

Bryan’s bail was set at $2.5 million, and he was charged with murder, conspiracy to commit murder, carrying a pistol without a permit and second-degree making a false statement.

Police said the gun — a .44-caliber magnum revolver — belonged to Bryan, but his friend, Hall-Davis, was the shooter.

Hall-Davis, 24, allegedly confessed to the shooting, but told police that he intended to double-cross Bryan and shoot him instead — not Jenkins, The Journal Inquirer reported.

He told police he was angry at Bryan for asking him to shoot Jenkins, according to reports.

Hall-Davis faces similar charges as Bryan. He is already in jail for an unrelated robbery charge and will be arraigned at a later date.

Police said Bryan gave conflicting statements about what he and Jenkins were doing in the area when the shooting occurred, at first saying they were waiting for one of his cousins, and then later saying they were buying marijuana.

After Friday's arraignment, the Jenkins family said that they felt betrayed after Bryan initially appeared to be heartbroken.

“It was hard because he told us he didn’t do it, he showed up at the funeral and he showed up at the vigil,” Shakaria Matthews, the victim's cousin, told Fox affiliate WTIC.

Jenkins’ father, Todd Jenkins, said he never believed Bryan could mastermind the heinous crime.
“It was hard to see him, knowing he used to come to my house and stay the night and talk with me,” Todd Jenkins told WTIC-TV, “and then for him to turn around do something like this.”
