Soldier kills motorcyclist, traffic warden
UGHELLI-THERE was pandemonium at the Ughelli main Market, Delta State, yesterday as soldiers attached to Setraco Construction Company that is handling the Ughelli Township road dualization project shot dead a commercial motorcyclist and a traffic warden. But The JTF said they were killed by accident.
According to eye witness report, the soldiers barricaded the bridge by the Ughelli market to enable the construction firm carry on with their work on the bridge, adding that trouble started when the motorcyclist who was identified as Efe Ewhugharodo insisted that he should be allowed to pass with his passenger.
The source said the cyclist was shot dead during the fracas that ensued, adding that a stray bullet also killed a traffic warden identified as Felix Adeke.
The source added that the traffic warden was rushed to the Ughelli central hospital where he gave up before
he could get medical attention.
The Vanguard further gathered that the deceased cyclists has been deposited at the Ugherlli central hospital mortuary. Contacted, JTF Commander in the area, Lt Col Victor Ibeh said the cyclist was killed while he (deceased) was struggling riffle with the soldier.
He added that they were killed by accident during the struggle.
