JUST IN: Boko Haram Claims Responsibility For Maiduguri Bombing, Promises More
Boko Haram, under the leadership of Imam Abubakar Shekau, has claimed responsibility for Tuesday suicide bombing attack in Maiduguri, capital of Borno State.
A security source in Maiduguri has confirmed to Sahara Reporters that the military is in receipt of an audio recording in which Shekau claimed responsibility for the deadly explosions in which he also promised more attacks.
"Yes, we have the audio and I heard it,” the source said. “Their leader Shekau said they did it. And that we should expect more of this."
Sahara Reporters has also gathered that military officials are still silent on the number of casualties, particularly those that were killed following the bombings.
It is notable that just minutes after the bombings, angry youths burned to the ground a building reported to be the proposed Senatorial campaign headquarters of Ali Modu Sheriff, a former governor who is seeking
re-election to the Upper House in 2015.
A source told Sahara Reporters the youth in Maiduguri are angry that that the Boko Haram menace took root during his tenure as governor. Mr. Sheriff was widely alleged to have looted public funds that he burnt on himself.
