‘I stabbed my husband with a bottle to scare him’ – Woman tells court

Law court rape

A woman in Ekiti has had her 18-year marriage dissolved after she admitted to stabbing her husband and pouring hot water on him.
Omoniyi Odunayo told the court that his wife, Bosede posed a threat to his life and that they were always fighting.
The wife admitted that she had assaulted her husband but that she had only done so to keep him from marrying another wife.
The Tribune reports:
The judge, Mrs Olayinka Akomolede, in her judgment, held that the marriage had broken down irretrievably and consequently dissolved the marriage.
Akomolede awarded custody of the eldest child to the husband and the two younger ones to the wife, and ordered that the husband should be responsible for their education.
She also ordered that Omoniyi should pay N5,000 as monthly allowance for the upkeep of each of the two children, while access to the children was granted to both parents.

Forty-five-year-old Omoniyi told the court that his wife was a stubborn woman who didn’t take to advice and corrections.
He claimed that his wife once poured hot water on him because he took another wife. According to him, Bosede didn’t possess the kind of behaviour he could cope with.
The father of three added that his wife once stabbed him on the chest with a bottle. He, therefore, urged the court to award custody of the eldest child to him, while the remaining two should be with his wife.
Responding, 42-year-old Bosede admitted to the allegations but explained that it was because of her husband’s indifferent attitude during the birth of their first child.
She also admitted she poured hot water on Omoniyi and stabbed him on the chest with bottle. According to her, it was just to scare him because he wanted to bring his second wife home.
