#WorldCup2014: Super Eagles Cancel Training Because Of Unpaid Bonuses, President GEJ Promises They Will Be Paid

The Nigeria players boycotted training on Thursday 26th June when the squad failed to board the bus taking them to the train for their appearance against France, which takes place on Monday.

Joseph Yobo told KickOffNigeria,

We are football players, this is our career, When you get on the pitch, you can’t think about anything apart from football. This money issue was there before the first match, it was there before we played Bosnia and it was there before we played Argentina and it did not distract us. We met with the officials before and also met with the Senate president and we agreed on some things before the competition started.

Hearing about the boycott, President GEJ took time from his busy schedule to intervene, he called the camp and assured the boys they will be paid. True to his word the Sports Minister Tamuno Danagogo has been
appointed to fly to Brazil to personally give the boys their payment.

Why can’t they just pay the money into their bank accounts though??? Cashless Nigeria and all?

Anyway, all has been resolved for now, with the team flying to Brasilia yesterday afternoon to prepare for their match on Monday against France.

I hope this issue of money doesn’t distract them from their game…
